Jopsox hit the town.

The Scunthorpe Junior Operatic Society, Jopsox are presenting The Wind in the Willows at the Plowright Theatre on July 9,10,11 at 7pm each evening. Saturday 27th June saw them take to the High Street in full costume and make up to promote their show.
Passers by were treated to a selection of songs and excerpts from the show. The children worked very hard for 2 hours giving out leaflets and telling people about the show.

They recently completed a sponsored walk over the Humber bridge to raise funds for the show and are rehearsing 3 times a week to perfect their production.

Eastoft Field Fayre 2nd August 2009

The Second Eastoft Field Fayre will take place at Carr House Farm, Car Lane, Eastoft on Sunday 2nd August 10.30 am onwards.

The focus is on family fun. We are trying to just cover costs and charging £1.50 for adult and 50p for children over 5 years. Any profit will be donated to St. John’s Ambulance.
There will be a free bouncy castle and drinks available throughout the event. There will be games and activities, a raffle, a tombola and several stalls. We have a few craft stalls available for £5. For further details contact Carol Johnson 01724 798366.

Auction of a Football and Programme signed by George Best & Rodney Marsh

There will be an auction featuring a football & programme signed by two legends of the game the late, great, Georgie Best and the outstanding Rodney Marsh at a fundraising evening on Friday 17th July. It is being held at Winterton Rangers Football Club, North Lincolnshire, where, along with great entertainment from the Barton band ‘Scrapyard Dogs’ there is also a prize draw and raffle planned. New Community Laundarette for Barton

Following the closure of the Knotted Note Cafe, the directors of Carlton Education still wanted to have on site a service that would not only benefit the people of Barton, but also offer work placements for young adults with learning needs. After listening to a lot of local people we now have a new laundarette open at the rear of 31 Fleetgate. Open weekdays the laundarete offers both a self service as well as service washes - and all being well a new collection and delivery service will start in the next month.

Barton Summer Playscheme

Barton Partners In Play Playscheme based at Castledyke Primary School is being organised for 4 weeks in the school summer holiday. This is for children aged 3-11 year olds and there are lots of activities planned, i.e Magicella, Mr Shiny, St John Ambulance (basic first aid knowledge), bikeability, sports activities, and lots more. Places need to be booked in advance and for more information please contact Sandra Hood on 07854501779. Times are Monday - Friday 10am - 12 noon. Each session costs £3.00.

New Holland & District Dance Club

The New Holland & District Dance Club celebrated their 37th successful season with a Dinner Dance on 1st May, 2009 at the Hotel Elizabeth, Grimsby. Music was provided by Mark Spafford playing the organ.

The raffle was organised by M Knapton and R Boyes, assisted by Mrs M Bell. Prizewinners were G Mumby, N Bell, J Jones, B Crossley, G Turner, M Boyes, V Hammond, G Jeffery,
B Fawcett, M Spilman, E Sutherland, J Dix, M Spafford, P Hackford, J Knapton, J Lacey,
J Harvey, C Appleyard, V Wressell and C Golding.

The entrance ticket prize was won by M Smith.

A CHARITY EVENING IS TAKING PLACE AT THE CASABLANCA CLUB OXFORD STREET GRIMSBY ON SATURDAY 9TH MAY STARTING AT 8PM UNTILL 2AM, ADMISSION IS TWO POUNDS ON THE DOOR. THIS EVENT IS BEING RUN BY SOUL-CITY AND THE FRIENDS OF THE SCOOTER SCENE.

NORTHERN SOUL, MOTOWN , REGGAE AND SKA ALONG WITH SOME MOD ANTHEMS WILL BE PLAYED ON VINYL THAT NIGHT.

A RAFFLE AND NAMECARD WILL ALSO RAISE MONEY ALONG WITH THE DOOR PROCEEDS FOR THIS WORTHY CHARITY.

Jack and Jaimie Marshall to speak at reception at the House of Lords

Jack Marshall aged 11 and his sister Jaimie aged 16 from Belton are two of only six children invited from across the country to speak at a reception hosted by Baroness Morris of Bolton OBE to be held at the House of Lords in an effort to raise the profile of the 'MOVE' programme. Jack who has Moebius syndrome and who followed the 'Move' programme to learn to walk independently whilst a pupil at St Lukes School in Scunthorpe. Jack is a junior ambassador for the MOVE Europe and speak of how he has put his 'walking skills' to good use fund raising to help children less fortunate than himself.
